Gardening Season: Heathy tips for Garden Upkeep
We are replaying the video that KP and I did last spring in our part one of Gardening Season - Tips & Tricks for Injury Prevention. I am sure most of you have your gardens planted by now, but I do want to remind you about a few things regarding the upkeep of your garden to keep your body happy.
Try to only do tasks in one position for 15 minutes. Then move to a different body position. For example, if you are weeding on your knees, stay on your knees for no longer than 15 minutes, then stand up to do some pruning for another 15 minutes. After that, sit down for 15 minutes if that is more comfortable and take a rest, have some water and repeat.
While you are working on your knees, make sure you have something under your them such as strap on knee pads, some thick foam, or a foam pad with handles to assist you getting up and down. These actually turn over to provide you with a seat. You can usually purchase these your favourite gardening store.
If you do strain any muscles, get a kink in your spine, or have any discomfort, please do not hesitate to book an appointment to see your health professionals at Beech Street Heath Centre. If you are not sure who to see, give us a call and we will help you find who is best for you. We offer same day appointments for Physiotherapy, Osteopathy, Massage Therapy, and Acupuncture. We can help you get you on the right path to health.
