Physiotherapy
What is Physiotherapy?
Often referred to as “physio” or “physical therapy”, a Physiotherapist works with people with decreased mobility and pain caused by injuries or disease to help them improve range of motion and reduce pain.
What kind of treatments are used in physiotherapy?
Once assessed a Physiotherapist will prescribe a treatment plan that takes into account your general health, activities and lifestyle. Treatments can include:
• Exercise programs designed to strengthen muscles and improve mobility
• Joint mobilizations to reduce stiffness and pain, and to improve range of motion
• Muscle education to improve control and prevent further or reoccurring injury
• Soft tissue massage
• Advice on Mobility aids such as crutches or canes
• Acupuncture
• Electrotherapy - including ultrasound, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and laser therapy.
